Built as a winter palace for Prince Eugene of Savoy, this building was acquired by Empress Maria Theresa in the 18th century and later used as Court Treasury. Since 1848, it has housed the Ministry of Finance. Following extensive restoration work, the principal rooms of Prince Eugene’s state apartment are accessible to the public since October 2013. It is also used as a venue for special exhibitions by contemporary artists.

- The staterooms of Prince Eugene of Savoy: the antechamber, the Blue Room, the Red Room, the Yellow Room, the Conference Room, the Gold Cabinet, the library rooms, and the chapel.

- Exciting contemporary exhibitions that seek the dialogue between cultural heritage and contemporary art.

Did you know:

- …that Prince Eugene came to the Habsburg court in 1683 as a penniless refugee? He gained fame and fortune as a general and diplomat, and when he died in 1763, he owned several palaces. His military successes are immortalised in the Winterpalais in a series of large-scale battle paintings by Ignace Jacques Parrocel.

- …the Winterpalais still houses parts of the Ministry of Finance?
