Wien Museum on Karlsplatz presents a mixture of art and history from the Neolithic to the mid-20th century. Two large-scale models of the city present Vienna before and after the city walls were razed and the free area along them was converted into the Ringstraße boulevard with its monumental buildings. The permanent exhibition “Vienna around 1900” shows paintings by Klimt and Schiele as well as works from the famous Wiener Werkstätte. A sensation for those interested in architecture are the sitting room and adjoining fireplace alcove from the apartment of architect Adolf Loos.

The Wien Museum Karlsplatz will be closed for renovation work from 3 February 2019.
