The Josephinum was founded in 1785 by Emperor Joseph II as a medical-surgical military academy and is the most prominent example of neoclassical architecture and an important legacy of the Age of Enlightenment in Austria. It is the historical gateway to the Medical University of Vienna and houses collections on the history of medicine, including the unique anatomical wax models from Florence, medical instruments, books, archival holdings, and manuscripts.

- Surgical instrument collection of Brambilla, the personal surgeon of Joseph II
- Temporary exhibitions – currently “de oculis”, until 8 October 2016

Did you know:

- The anatomical wax models were manufactured in Florence and brought across the Brenner Pass to Vienna on mules
